No matter you are going to perform an erotic massage or just a normal swdish massage, the setting of environment is vital, and beside the dim light and temperature, music is one most important part of a good massage experience. Music is an essential component of life for many people and as there are such diverse tastes, one type of music is never right for two different individuals. In fact, we vary so much in mood and outlook that the same piece of music may seem mellow and comforting on one occasion but may be distracting on another. Therefore, one of the greatest gifts a Tantric massage therapist can give, apart from the wonderful massage itself, is to choose the right piece of music that suits your mood and demeanor on that particular day. This is an art form in itself.
Music has the ability to evoke strong emotions in all of us, and the tempo or beat of the music affects the way we view and respond to situations. This is true whether or not you consciously recognize it. For example, I’m sure there have been times when music has been playing in the background and you have been deep in conversation, and then suddenly realized that the music was playing havoc with your mind. It can have the effect of quietly winding you up or calming you down, even if you are not aware of it. This is why it is important to choose your music carefully, especially if you use it as an aid to meditation or for use in the background when you need to concentrate or focus on something.
As we realize just how important music is, you would not expect to hear rock music during a relaxing massage session, and your therapist would not consider choosing this for you. That is not to say it doesn’t have its place, but the tempo would serve to increase the blood pressure rather than lower it, which would result in a frame of mind that is ready for action rather than one that is winding down and calm.
However, if a specific kind of healing is required as part of the massage session, such as sexual healing, then music that stimulates the muladhara or base chakra is the one to choose. This would be music that has a deep drumming in the background of the music and the general flow of the music would be in the key of ‘c’.
Of course, some people prefer different genres of music playing during their massage session, and although this isn’t to everyone’s taste, it can certainly help a person to go on a journey of discovery, particularly if the music is based around the vibration of the chakras and each track changes accordingly.
If this is combined with the perfect massage oil to stimulate the olfactory nerves, then a great healing will take place during the massage session. The scent of different massage oils are known to stimulate different areas of the brain, so depending on the kind of release or healing your need will depend on what essential oil you choose. For example, healing or unblocking of the base chakra responds well to Rosemary (not to be used on pregnant women) or the earthy scent of Cypress.
